Business Information

An established heavy civil and utility contractor serving public infrastructure and commercial projects in a major Pacific Northwest market, with more than three decades of operating history, specialized field crews, and a self-performed equipment fleet. Core scopes are earthwork and water, storm, sewer, and electrical infrastructure improvements, and the project record covers watermain replacement, sewer rehabilitation and bypass operations, natural drainage, roadway restoration, lighting and EV-charging installations, and emergency repairs on aging systems.

Customers are mainly municipal utilities, water and wastewater districts, transportation infrastructure owners, and general contractors on school and commercial projects. Work is bonded and won project by project, not under recurring contracts. The current work-in-progress schedule includes awarded projects running into 2027. Several of the largest public-agency customers have awarded repeat work, and current-year revenue is concentrated among them.

Earnings and margins stepped up sharply in 2026, and those results already carry the cost of an expanded management tier. This is not an absentee operation. The owner still leads estimating and bid decisions, a general manager who joined in 2025 is being developed toward estimating, and a senior project manager has taken over project and back-office duties a co-owner used to handle. Bonding, licenses, and certifications are subject to buyer qualification, and real estate is excluded from the operating-company sale.

The strongest fit is a strategic utility, heavy civil, or regional construction company, or a PE-backed infrastructure platform, with the working capital and surety capacity to support public-agency work.

Planned ownership transition

The company operates from an office of approximately 2,000 sq ft on a roughly 0.92-acre yard, expected to be leased from a seller affiliate at $15,000/month NNN. The real estate is excluded from the operating-company sale but may be available separately. Approximately $1,800,000 in equipment and vehicles is included: excavators and loaders, tandem and quad dump trucks with pup trailers, a heavy-haul tractor with equipment trailers, a vacuum excavation trailer, pavement-milling attachments, sweepers, compaction equipment, shoring, road plates, and a fleet of service trucks. For a buyer, that means self-performance capacity on bonded utility work from day one without an immediate fleet build-out. The final list of included assets and any maintenance needs are subject to confirmation in diligence.

The owner is prepared to stay through a meaningful transition focused on estimating continuity and the handoff to the management team, with length and terms flexible and subject to negotiation.

Demand comes from replacing and upgrading aging water, sewer, and stormwater systems, plus natural drainage, transportation-facility, electrification, and school-site work for public owners. Public-agency work is hard to enter. It requires performance and payment bonding, agency qualification, a documented project record, and crews equipped for deep, live-system, and environmentally sensitive excavation. This contractor has more than 35 years of that record, including emergency repairs where response capability decides who gets the call. The customer base is multi-agency and public-sector oriented but not highly diversified, with meaningful current-year concentration in its three largest customers.

The first lever is estimating depth: formalizing the general manager's move into bidding alongside the existing estimator reduces reliance on the owner and frees capacity to bid more work. Current bonding limits and the project record support bidding larger or more technical water, sewer, storm, and school-site packages, and the company's existing electrical capability supports more lighting and EV-charging scopes for transportation owners. A regional strategic acquirer could also add density by sharing bonding, procurement, equipment, and labor, and the emergency-repair record suits selective jobs where fast response matters.
